What do runners want as presents? (cross country track)?

10 points
‘kay so my older brother is hardcore runner. He runs at American University and I need to get a present for him for Christmas then his birthday. What do runners like [if your like my brother] ?
And I don’t want obvious answers like gloves, hat, shoes…
I need something that he would love [...]

    a snazzy running hat
    special running gloves
a nice water bottle, sounds lame but it would be appreciated
    running bumper sticker
    Gu, power bars, sports beans
    a nice running watch
a heart rate monitor, he would be able to use this for workouts
    jackets
    pants
    running socks?
gift card to a running store, surely there would be something there he would like
itunes gift cards are always good
Nike + ipod, very cool little thing you put in your shoe that measures how far you go and plays music
Runner’s World magazine, if he doesn’t already have a subscription

theres about a million running books on pretty much anything from running better, to autobiographies of great runners. (im personally asking for Chi Running, ive heard its really great)

theres some good running movies too:
    Without Limits, story of Prefontain
    Preforntane, different movie, same idea
Chariots of Fire, older movie, but still a great story

i really like your idea of the running gift basket, can i have one? lol. personaly i would rather have a gatorade or powerade than a red bull, but im not your brother so do what you think is best.

if your wondering where to get all this, find a local running store. you may have to go to a book store for the books and movies, but they should have just about everything else a runner could possible want and they will be able to help you out too. Merry Christmas!

I am a die hard runner. Everything i do is based off of run. my social/personal life has been over controlled by running. Everywhere im invited i have to say no because i am running. School for me is just a break between runs. The one thing i want most of all is a good long day at a spa or something. I know i am s dude but if my sister for it for me i would use it as my excuse. I really need just one day off. But if that idea is too sissy for you i understand. Spikes are a guys best friend. BTW and if you want a basket make sure you have a watch in it. anything that has to with food would be good. Trust me get him away from running just for a day . He’ll love it .. golfing , skiing, boarding, anything. GOOD LUCK

It would definitely depend on your budget, but you can look into things like under armour leggings, the socks are a good idea, ones that won’t slip off and have wet wick technology to keep him cool and dry. Also look into buying him some sport sunglasses because they can really help you with everyday runs by keeping the sun out of your eyes especially when there’s snow on the ground because that can be real torture if your eyes got watery when you’re running. Maybe some 5 hr energy shots or 6 hr power. They give you energy equivalent to one cup of coffee and work very well. Hope this helped =] Oh and maybe subscribe him to Runner’s World magazine. And I’d also stay away from the red bull, as a runner I can tell you it does nothing for you.

A massage appointment! They are so nice! I had one last week and they totally refresh you and loosen up your muscles.
That basket sounds really nice too!

im a hard core runner too and for xmas i want something fun, like a computer game that i can do when im too f***ing tired from practice to do anything else.

food is also a great idea, runners love food because they need to eat about twice as much as normal people and after a while it gets boring. Cookies (bagged), and other sweet non-perishables are amazing. so are chocolate protien bars. :)

The basket is a really great idea.
Think about toe/hand warmers, too, quench gum, and maybe a running book instead of a iTunes giftcard, or make him a mix CD. Just to keep it less expensive.
Shorts and under armour are nice, but I know I’m pretty picky about size and fit and style, so it may be best to leave those up to him unless you know his taste really well.
If you wanted to get personal and creative, maybe make him a running collage for his dorm room wall? We made them for our cross country team mates before big meets and they were fun.
Personally, other people’s suggestions of a massage or day at a spa sounds absolutely fantastic and I would love someone to get me one for Christmas.
You sound like a really sweet and thoughtful sister.

If he was a hardcore runner, he wouldn’t drink redbull. and I bet he doesn’t drink it, ask him.
